Jura Tastival 2017
The Jura Tastival 2017 is a unique limited edition, specially released in honour of Jura Distillery's annual Tastival festival. This festival brings together whisky lovers from around the world to celebrate the innovative and creative side of Jura. For this special edition, Jura has created a single malt that has had a finish in both first fill American white oak ex-bourbon barrels and carefully selected ruby port casks. The result is a whisky that combines elegance and depth with a touch of fruity sweetness.
Tasting note
Nose
Rich aromas of ripe red fruits such as raspberries and cherries, combined with vanilla, honey, and a hint of orange zest. Subtle notes of roasted almonds and milk chocolate add depth.
Taste
Silky and full-bodied, with layers of juicy berries, candied orange, and toffee. The port cask influence brings flavors of plums, raisins, and a hint of cinnamon, while the bourbon wood adds a foundation of creamy vanilla and gentle spices.
Finish
Long and warming, with lingering notes of oak, red fruit, and subtle spiciness. A refined balance of sweetness and wood influence.
Jura Distillery
Jura Distillery is located on the island of Jura, off the west coast of Scotland, known for its rugged beauty and remote location. Founded in 1810, the distillery has a rich history of whisky production, but was closed in the early 20th century. In 1963, Jura Distillery was reopened by local entrepreneurs Robin Fletcher and Tony Riley-Smith, bringing new life to the island community.
A specific feature of Jura Distillery is the use of both non-peated and lightly-peated barley, resulting in a wide range of flavour profiles. The distillery produces whiskies that range from light and fruity to rich and smoky. The whisky is mainly matured in American oak bourbon casks, with occasional use of sherry and wine casks for added complexity.
Jura whiskies are known for their smooth and approachable character, with distinctive notes of citrus, honey, spices and a subtle smoke. The unique combination of traditional methods and innovative maturation techniques makes Jura a beloved name in the world of Scotch whisky.
