Bowmore 27 years 1997 - 2024 Release 06
This rare single cask Bowmore, distilled on May 7th, 1997 and bottled at natural cask strength after 27 years, is a beautifully complex and refined example of Islay’s oldest distillery. The refill sherry butt maturation offers a perfect interplay between floral sweetness, smoky depth and spicy intensity. With only 144 bottles drawn from the cask, this release is as rare as it is unforgettable. A dram for lovers of elegant peat and smoky BBQ nuance.
Tasting Notes
Nose
Elegant and expressive with an initial burst of lavender and Parma Violets. Behind that, savoury notes unfold: sticky BBQ sauce on slow-cooked ribs, smoked over charcoal. Sweet tobacco and a touch of aged leather linger in the background.
Palate
Chewy and meaty with bold BBQ smoke flavours. Spicy touches of red peppercorns and a subtle cherry note add complexity. Neat: intense and richly textured. With water: the smoke intensifies, floral notes emerge on the palate, and a delicious hickory BBQ character develops — utterly mouthwatering.
Finish
Long and layered with lingering smoke, warming spice and a gentle sweetness of dried fruit and floral echoes. A masterful combination of strength and grace.
Bowmore Distillery
Bowmore Distillery is located on the shores of Loch Indaal in Bowmore, the capital of the island of Islay. Established in 1779, Bowmore is one of Scotland's oldest legal distilleries and has a rich history of craft whisky production.
A unique feature of Bowmore Distillery is the use of its own traditional malting floors, with the barley being hand-turned on floors within the distillery. This traditional process, combined with the use of locally sourced peat, gives Bowmore whiskies their distinctive balance of smokiness and fruity complexity.
Bowmore whiskies are matured in a combination of ex-bourbon casks and sherry casks, contributing to their deep and complex flavour profile with notes of honey, lemon, sea salt and a subtle smokiness. Its location on the shores of Loch Indaal also provides maritime influences, which are reflected in the whiskies' character.
The combination of historical tradition, unique production methods and the influence of the Islay environment makes Bowmore an iconic name in the world of Scotch single malt whisky.
