Bruichladdich distillery is situated on the island of Islay, but is known for its atypical Islay character. There is very little use of peat and generally the taste of Bruichladdich can be called fruity and elegant. A specific barrel maturation can change this as in this case. For this single cask bottling an Ex-Riversaltes Barrique has been used. Riversaltes is a dessert wine from France and ensures that the fruity character of Bruichladdich is accentuated.

Bruichladdich Distillery

Bruichladdich Distillery is located on the west coast of the island of Islay, on the shores of Loch Indaal. Founded in 1881 by the Harvey brothers, the distillery has a rich history and is known for its innovative and experimental approach to whisky production.

A specific feature of Bruichladdich is the diversity in their whiskies. The distillery produces three types of single malt whisky: Bruichladdich, Port Charlotte and Octomore. Bruichladdich whiskies are unpeated and are known for their fruity and floral character with notes of citrus and sea salt. Port Charlotte is heavily peated, with a robust smokiness and rich flavours of earth and spices. Octomore, the world's most peated whisky, has intense smoke notes with complex layers of fruit and spice.

Bruichladdich Distillery

Bruichladdich Distillery stands on the western coast of Islay, beside the shores of Loch Indaal. It was built in 1881 by the brothers William, John and Robert Harvey. Unlike many older distilleries, Bruichladdich did not evolve from a farm but was purpose built as a modern Victorian whisky distillery. Its subsequent history was turbulent, with several owners and long periods of silence. Bruichladdich closed again in 1994, but a celebrated revival followed in 2001 under an independent group and whisky maker Jim McEwan.

Since reopening, Bruichladdich has become known for transparency, provenance and experimentation. Much of the original Victorian equipment remains in use, and the spirit is distilled slowly. The Bruichladdich name is used for unpeated single malts with a floral and fruity character. The same distillery also produces the heavily peated Port Charlotte and the intensely peated Octomore. Barley variety, growing location, cask selection and maturation all play a central role. The whisky matures on Islay and is bottled there without chill filtration or added colouring, using spring water from the island.

Based in Diez, close to Limburg, he built a strong reputation among enthusiasts and collectors together with a small group of fellow whisky lovers.

The focus is on single cask whiskies and small releases selected for flavour, character and individuality. Age or the fame of a distillery matters less than the quality of the cask itself. Many bottlings are released at natural strength, without added colouring or chill filtration, allowing the character of the spirit and its maturation to remain as direct and expressive as possible.

The Whisky Agency is known for ranges such as The Perfect Dram, Liquid Library, Liquid Sun and Private Stock. The company also regularly collaborates with specialist whisky retailers, bars and other bottlers. Distinctive labels, limited outturns and a broad selection of whisky and rum make each release highly recognisable and often sought after by enthusiasts.
