Littlemill & Dunglass Vintage 1967 Set 2x 50cl
This extremely rare Lowland Single Malt set was distilled in 1967 at the now 'silent' Littlemill distillery and bottled by Signatory Vintage in 2004 as one of only 325 very limited edition 2 x 50cl bottles. (Set number 216)
The first bottle is a 36 year old Littlemill malt that was distilled on 28 February 1967, matured in oak Hogsheads numbers 669-672 and bottled on 11 June 2003.
The second bottle in the set was also distilled at Littlemill in 1967, but under the name Dunglass - a medium, mildly-peated single malt compared to the more delicate and sweeter Littlemill style. This Dunglass malt was distilled on 31 May 1967 and then matured for 37 years in oak Hogshead number 2409 and bottled on 25 June 2004.
A beautiful set that showcases the contrasting styles of the Littlemill distillery, which sadly closed its doors in 1994 and whose last remnants were destroyed by fire in 2004.
Littlemill Distillery
Littlemill Distillery was located in Bowling, West Dunbartonshire, near the banks of the River Clyde in Scotland. Founded in 1772, Littlemill was one of the oldest registered distilleries in the country. The distillery had a rich and varied history with several ownership changes until it closed permanently in 1994. A fire in 2004 completely destroyed the distillery.
A specific feature of Littlemill was the use of both traditional pot stills and Lomond stills, which allowed for a wide range of whisky profiles. Littlemill whisky was known for its light and elegant style, often with fruity and floral notes, combined with a subtle maltiness. The whisky was matured in various cask types, including bourbon and sherry casks, which created a complex flavour profile.
Although the distillery no longer exists, the remaining bottles of Littlemill whisky remain highly prized and sought after by collectors, as a tribute to an important piece of Scotch whisky history.
