Glen Elgin 15 years 2008 - 2024 #805293

"Matured for 15 years in a refill Oloroso sherry butt and bottled at 55.6% ABV, this Glen Elgin shows off the bright and spritely aspects of the distillate. Orange blossom water, rose, limoncello, and French plum tart leap from the glass, but some lightly tart and dry leather and freshly sawn log notes provide foundation and depth.

Light and delicious, but with real character — you’d be doing just fine with a dram or two of this lovely liquid for your summer holiday!"

Glen Elgin Distillery

Glen Elgin Distillery is located in the Speyside region of Scotland, near the town of Elgin in Moray. Founded in 1898 by William Simpson and James Carle, the distillery has a rich history that has witnessed several ownership transitions and modernisations. Despite initial financial difficulties, Glen Elgin became an established name in the whisky world.

A unique feature of Glen Elgin is its use of a slow distillation process, which helps create a smooth and complex spirit. The distillery uses water from the Millbuies Springs, which provides a pure base for their whiskies. Glen Elgin whiskies are known for their fruity and floral flavour profiles, with notes of honey, vanilla, orchard fruit and a subtle hint of spice.

The whiskies are mainly matured in ex-bourbon casks, which ensures a balanced and refined flavour. Glen Elgin produces both single malts and whisky for blends, and their products are appreciated worldwide for their quality and complexity. The combination of a beautiful location, traditional techniques and high-quality production makes Glen Elgin a respected name in the world of Scotch whisky.

Adelphi Distillery Limited

Adelphi Distillery Limited is an independent bottler of mainly Scotch Single Malt whiskies, known for its high quality and limited editions. Besides Scotch whisky, they sometimes make forays into other whisky countries, but rum and armagnac can also be found in Adelphi Distillery Limited's portfolio. The company has a rich history dating back to the 19th century and is today a respected name in the whisky world.

History and Origins

  • Establishment: The original Adelphi Distillery was founded in 1826 in the Gorbals, a district in Glasgow, Scotland. The distillery produced a wide range of whiskies, both single malts and grain whiskies.
  • Closure and revival: The original distillery closed in the early 20th century. In the 1990s, the Adelphi name was revived by Jamie Walker, a descendant of the original owners. Since then, Adelphi has focused on bottling high-quality, rare spirits.
