This Single Malt Scotch Whisky is the ultimate example of craftsmanship. Distilled at Glen Elgin Distillery, located in Speyside and aged for 11 years before being bottled as a Single cask bottling by Hidden Spirits, the independent bottler from Italy. The final period of maturation took place in an Oloroso Sherry cask. This finish enriches the flavour, with the sweet, nutty and fruity character of the sherry adding to the mellow character of Glen Elgin distillery.

Tasting note

Nose

The nose opens with aromas of juicy sultanas and candied orange peel, followed by a warm spiciness of nutmeg and a hint of oak.

Taste

At the first sip, the fullness of the whisky reveals itself with notes of syrupy honey, ripe plums and a complex spice palette with cinnamon and clove.
 

Finish

The finish is long and satisfying, with a lingering sweetness and an elegant spiciness that caresses the tongue.

Glen Elgin Distillery

Glen Elgin was founded in 1898 by business partners William Simpson and James Carle. The distillery began production in 1900, just as the Scotch whisky industry entered a severe downturn. It closed for the first time after only a few months and changed ownership several times during its early years. In 1930, Glen Elgin became part of Scottish Malt Distillers and was associated with White Horse Distillers. Its malt has since played an important role in blended Scotch, particularly White Horse.

Glen Elgin was extensively rebuilt in 1964, when the number of stills increased from two to six. The distillery uses clear wort, long fermentation and slow distillation to create a distinctly fruity spirit. Traditional worm tubs give this elegant foundation additional weight, structure and complexity.

As a single malt, Glen Elgin remained in the background for many years. Official releases have been limited, while independent bottlers reveal different ages and styles of cask maturation. Glen Elgin is known for ripe orchard fruit, citrus, honey, malt and gentle spice, often accompanied by a full, lightly waxy texture.

Hidden Spirits

Hidden Spirits is an Italian independent bottler founded in 2013 by whisky enthusiast and collector Andrea Ferrari. Based in the historic centre of Ferrara, he built on his experience as a whisky blogger and on the contacts developed during his travels through Scotland. His aim was clear: to discover distinctive casks and share them with enthusiasts in small releases.

The main focus is single cask Scotch whisky, selected for character, balance and individuality. Hidden Spirits looks beyond age statements or the reputation of a distillery. Both young, powerful whiskies and longer-matured bottlings are considered when a cask shows sufficient personality. Rum also plays an important role, including releases under the related The Wild Parrot label.

Hidden Spirits is equally recognisable for its artistic presentation. Labels are created by different Italian artists, giving every release its own identity. In this way, the bottler combines serious and careful cask selection with Italian creativity and a clear preference for expressive whiskies and rums released in limited quantities.
