Glenfarclas 15 years - Old Bottling
This is an old bottling, L08. With this, we expect it to be a bottling launched in 2008.
The Glenfarclas 15 years L08 is a single malt whisky from the Glenfarclas distillery, one of the last independent, family-owned distilleries in the Speyside region. Glenfarclas is known for its classic style of sherry-aged whiskies, which are rich and full-bodied with deep notes of fruit, spice, and oak. This 15-year-old expression is one of the favourites within the Glenfarclas range, partly because of its higher alcohol content of 46%, which provides a more intense flavour experience and complexity.
Tasting note
Nose
Rich aromas of dried fruits such as sultanas, figs and plums immediately emerge, followed by sweet notes of toffee and caramel. There are also spicy nuances of cinnamon and cloves, along with hints of orange peel and oak, which make for a warm and inviting aroma
Taste
Full and powerful, with a silky texture. The flavours are intense, starting with dark chocolate and a firm sweetness of caramel, which transition into dried fruit and toasted nuts. The sherry influences bring notes of rich spices such as nutmeg and a hint of pepper, making for a layered and deep taste experience. As the whisky develops on the palate, hints of orange and marzipan are added, giving it a complex sweetness.
Finish
Long and warming, with a lingering sweetness of honey and caramel, complemented by a soft, spicy finish. A subtle woodiness lingers, along with a hint of dark chocolate and a slight bitterness that rounds off the flavour profile beautifully.
Glenfarclas Distillery
Glenfarclas Distillery is located in the heart of the Speyside region, at the foot of Mount Ben Rinnes in Ballindalloch. Founded in 1836 by Robert Hay and owned by the Grant family since 1865, Glenfarclas has a rich history of more than a century and a half in producing high-quality single malt whiskies. This distillery prides itself on its independence and family management, which contributes to the consistent quality and character of their products.
A unique feature of Glenfarclas is the use of directly fired copper pot stills, which contributes to the rich and full flavour of their whiskies. The distillery uses pure spring water from nearby springs on the Ben Rinnes, providing a pure and fresh base for their whisky.
Glenfarclas whiskies are known for their rich, complex flavour profiles, with notes of sherry, dried fruit and spices. The whiskies are mainly matured in ex-Oloroso sherry casks, creating a deep, sweet and layered flavour experience. The combination of a beautiful location, traditional techniques and high-quality production makes Glenfarclas a respected name in the world of Scotch whisky.
