Glentauchers 16 years 2009 - 2025 100 Proof Exceptional Cask #11

This is another stunning addition to the much-loved Signatory Vintage 100 Proof Exceptional Cask range. This Speyside single malt has matured for a whopping 16 years on first-fill Oloroso sherry butts, giving it a deep colour, rich aromas and a sumptuous taste experience. Bottled at 57.1% and non-chill filtered, this whisky gives everything you would expect from a serious, sherry-aged dram.

Tasting note

Nose

Rich and layered with notes of raisins, dark chocolate, stewed red fruits, and a hint of candied orange peel. Subtle touches of clove and walnut round it off beautifully.

Palate

Full-bodied and intense with prominent sherry influence: think plums, dates, mocha, and a trace of old leather. The 57.1% ABV is well-balanced and adds warmth without overpowering.

Finish

Long and satisfying with lingering notes of oak, cocoa, and warming spice like cinnamon and nutmeg. A proper sherry cask powerhouse with elegance and depth.

Glentauchers Distillery

Glentauchers Distillery is located in the Speyside region, near the town of Keith in Moray. Founded in 1897 by James Buchanan & Co., Glentauchers has a rich history of producing high-quality whiskies. The distillery is located in a picturesque setting, surrounded by green hills and access to pure water from nearby springs.

A unique feature of Glentauchers is its use of long fermentation and distillation processes, contributing to a lighter and fruitier spirit. Glentauchers whiskies are known for their delicate and complex flavour profiles, with notes of apple, pear, citrus and subtle floral accents. The whiskies are mainly matured in ex-bourbon casks, which ensures a smooth and balanced flavour.

Although Glentauchers mainly produces blended whiskies, such as the famous Ballantine's, their single malts are also highly prized for their finesse and depth. The combination of an idyllic location, traditional production processes and high-quality whiskies makes Glentauchers a respected name in the world of Scotch whisky.

Glentauchers was founded in 1897 by renowned blender James Buchanan and whisky merchant W.P. Lowrie. Built in Speyside, the distillery began production in 1898. Its purpose was clear from the outset: to provide a refined malt whisky for blends such as Buchanan’s and Black & White. In 1925, Glentauchers became part of the Distillers Company Limited through Buchanan. During a major expansion in 1966, the number of stills increased from two to six.

As demand for Scotch whisky declined, the distillery was mothballed in 1985. Allied Distillers acquired Glentauchers in 1989 and resumed production in 1992. Since 2005, it has been part of Chivas Brothers, owned by Pernod Ricard. Its whisky now plays an important role within Ballantine’s.

Glentauchers remains relatively rare as a single malt. Official bottlings are scarce, so enthusiasts mainly know the distillery through independent releases. Glentauchers is recognised for an elegant and gentle Speyside style, with floral notes, ripe fruit, soft berries, malted barley and sweet, confectionery-like flavours.

Signatory Vintage is one of the most respected and recognised independent bottlers in the whisky world. The company was founded in 1988 by Andrew Symington and is based in Pitlochry, Scotland. Signatory Vintage is known for its impressive collection of single malt and single grain whiskies sourced from various Scottish distilleries.

In 2002 Andrew Symington acquired Edradour Distillery, one of the smallest traditional distilleries in Scotland. This has enabled Signatory Vintage to offer exclusive bottlings of Edradour whiskies alongside their regular independent bottlings.
