Tasting note

Nose

The nose of Macallan 12 Years Elegancia is rich and refined, with a pleasant mix of dried fruits, such as sultanas and figs, coming from the sherry casks. This is complemented by sweet aromas of vanilla, honey, and a hint of caramel, thanks to the influence of the bourbon casks. There are also subtle notes of cinnamon, nutmeg, and almonds.

Taste

On the tongue, this whisky offers a nice balance between sweetness and spiciness. You taste rich notes of caramelised sugar, vanilla, butterscotch, and citrus, along with the deeper flavours of sherry such as nuts, sultanas, and plums. The combination of sherry and bourbon gives the whisky a softer texture than some classic Macallans, with an elegant and rounded mouthfeel.

Finish

The finish is medium to long, with a pleasant sweetness of vanilla and honey, which slowly changes to spicy and woody notes. The influence of the oak barrels comes out nicely without being overpowering.
