What sets this Small Batch apart is its careful blending of barrels aged between 8 and 12 years, which is quite impressive for a non-age-statement bourbon. The aging takes place in new, heavily charred American oak barrels, giving the spirit its signature deep color, bold character, and layers of warm spice.

Tasting Notes

Nose

Elijah Craig is an American bourbon brand from Heaven Hill, named after the eighteenth-century preacher and distiller Elijah Craig. He is traditionally regarded as a pioneer of Kentucky bourbon and is said to have matured whiskey in charred oak barrels around 1789. Although it cannot be proven that he was the first to use this method, new charred oak later became a defining element of bourbon production.

Heaven Hill introduced Elijah Craig Bourbon in 1986 as a twelve-year-old premium bourbon. The brand was therefore ahead of the renewed interest in longer-aged and carefully batched American whiskey. Its well-known Small Batch expression is created from selected barrels and matured in heavily charred new American oak.

Elijah Craig is known for a full, classic style with caramel, vanilla, warming spice, toasted oak and gentle smoke. Alongside Small Batch, the range includes expressions such as Barrel Proof, Toasted Barrel, rye whiskey and older single barrel releases. The powerful Barrel Proof bottlings in particular have earned a strong reputation among experienced bourbon enthusiasts.
