Old Forester Barrel Reserve 96 Olympics 100cl

When Old Forester was introduced in 1870, Old Forester bottles were sealed to prevent adulteration. The bottles were initially sold exclusively in pharmacies as a medicinal product. Originally, the product name was spelt as Old Forrester, with a double r. The product was said to be named after a doctor Dr William Forrester who approved its use and frequently sold this 'medicine' to his patients. The brand was founded by George Garvin Brown and his half-brother John Thompson Street Brown. T.S. Brown would later also play a role in the history of Four Roses and Heaven Hill. By the 1920s, Old Forester was America's best-selling whiskey.
 

Origin and bottling

Specially marketed in honour of the 1996 Atlanta Olympics. It doesn't say so on the bottle, but this 12-year-old Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whisky was distilled in 1984 and finally bottled and marketed in 1996.

Nose

The high percentage of corn used in the preparation of this Bourbon has created a pleasant sweetness in the aroma. But in addition to the classic BOurbon notes, aromas of coffee, caramel, a cinnamon stick and orange. Complex aromas of nuts and berries also add character to this Bourbon.

Taste

A powerhouse. This Forester is bottled at an alcohol content of 48%, which makes the flavour extra intense. Full-bodied, spicy and pleasantly sweet. Clear wood aromas and vanilla. Coffee, chocolate and orange peel here too. 

Finish

Medium-long with the pepper providing character.

Overall impression

Give this Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whisky some time. Pour it and leave it alone for half an hour. You will be rewarded.
