Straw gold.

Nose

The spiciness of the rye used puffs right out of the glass. It is light and delicate and smelling through this, nuanced aromas of honey, flowers and juicy orchard fruit also come to the fore. 

Taste

On the palate, the port casks used bring nice body and gives dried fruits like apricot and figs, balanced by vanilla and citrus.

Finish

Fruity and smooth. The spicy aroma lingers nicely in the mouth with a small (port) sweetness.

Overall impression

The newest addition to the range and very representative of Stauning's house style, especially with its slightly spicy (rye) character. Very nice value for money.

Extra information

Stauning, founded by a diverse group of nine friends, is based in a small village on the west coast of Denmark. Their journey began in 2005, without any knowledge of experience in producing whisky. Just a desire to make a great (Danish) whisky. It wasn't until 2011 that the first bottles hit the market. Neither an Old World Whisky, it is not a New World Whisky either. Stauning calls their whiskies "Our World Whisky. At the time of its release, there was a huge uptick in more local ingredients, craft producers, and Stauning was immediately noticed. Even with a production of 80,000 liters, they couldn't keep up, so they opened their new purpose-built distillery in 2018, however, they have kept their ethos and their barley is sourced locally.

Stauning HØST is a new bottling. It is a smooth, fruity and balanced whisky that is perfect for beginners and connoisseurs alike. Stauning HØST (pronounced "hurst") means "harvest" in Danish and is a so-called "Double Malt" whisky. Made in Denmark from carefully selected and locally sourced rye and barley, it is thus a combination of single malt and malted rye whisky, aged in American oak casks and port casks.
