Nose

Crisp red apple and ripe pear are complemented by peach, honeysuckle and a touch of rose petals. Honey, vanilla, walnuts and cloves add further depth to the fresh aroma.

Palate

Full and lively with juicy apple, pear and peach, followed by sultanas, caramel and flaked almonds. Candied citrus, ginger, cinnamon and chocolate provide a spiced and richer foundation.

Finish

Long and warming with pear, chocolate and gentle oak spices. Notes of honey, caramel and citrus linger with refinement.

The Lakes Distillery was established in 2011 with the ambition of creating English single malt whisky of international standing. Founder Paul Currie chose a restored Victorian model farm near Bassenthwaite, in the heart of the Lake District, as its home. The distillery opened beside the River Derwent in 2014. During its early years, the company built recognition through The One blended whisky and The Lakes Gin, while its own single malt was given time to mature.

Genesis, the first Lakes Single Malt, appeared in 2018. It was followed by The Whiskymaker’s Reserve, a series exploring different cask combinations and maturation methods. The Lakes has been part of the Nyetimber Group since 2024.

The Lakes is known for a rich, layered and distinctly sherry-led style. European and American oak casks seasoned with oloroso and Pedro Ximénez play an important role. By actively guiding the whisky through different casks during maturation, the distillery creates a character shaped by dried fruit, chocolate, spice, citrus and refined oak.
