Hakushu Distillery
Hakushu Distillery is located deep in the forests of the Southern Japanese Alps, in Yamanashi Prefecture, surrounded by the rich natural landscape of the Japanese mountains. Founded in 1973 by Suntory, Hakushu builds on the rich tradition of Japanese whisky, inspired by the pioneering spirit of the nearby Yamazaki Distillery.
A unique feature of Hakushu is the use of pure mountain water from the rivers that cross the region, which contributes to the freshness and clarity of their whiskies. The distillery uses a variety of stills and matures their whisky in a wide range of casks, including ex-bourbon, sherry and Japanese Mizunara oak casks. This results in a complex and layered flavour profile.
Hakushu whiskies are known for their light and fresh character, with notes of orchard fruit and a subtle spiciness. The distillery places a strong emphasis on preserving the natural environment and using sustainable production methods.
The combination of an idyllic mountain location and a commitment to quality makes Hakushu Distillery a respected name in the world of Japanese whisky.
