Albert Bichot Origines Chardonnay 2022

The dominant white floral and citrus nose lead to notes of honey and dried fruit. The palate is very well balanced, expertly combining liveliness and roundness.

About the producer

The Bichot family has a long history in Burgundy, settling there in 1350. Almost five centuries later, in 1831, Bernard Bichot established a wine business in Monthélie, on the Côte de Beaune. Bernard's son Hippolyte bought the family's first vines in Volnay and it was with the next generation that the family business settled in the town of Beaune, where it remains today.

Under the leadership of current owner Albéric Bichot, the name has grown stronger and stronger and the company has slowly acquired land. They currently own 107 hectares across six estates: Domaine Long-Depaquit in Chablis, Domaine du Clos-Frantin and Château Gris in Nuits-st-Georges, Domaine du Pavillon in Pommard, Domaine Adélie in Mercurey and Domaine de Rochegrès in Moulin à Vent. Each of these domains is equipped with its own wine cellar, minimising the time between picking and pressing - an important factor in the quality of the final product. The village wines are produced in the large central vinification centre at the headquarters in Beaune. Besides the wines Albert Bichot produces on their own estates, they continue to work in the traditional role of a négociant - buying grapes from local vintners and making their own wines from them. In total, there are 70 of these local vintners, with whom they have a long-term relationship, which is also crucial for maintaining quality.

Sustainability is fundamental to Albéric Bichot's philosophy. All the vineyards he owns in Côte d'Or and the Côte Chalonnaise are certified organic and they plan to extend this to other estates. "We must never forget that wine is a luxury product, not a necessity. We can live without luxury, especially if it is harmful. It is perfectly reasonable that society expects winemakers to be responsible for the pesticides they use. In the vineyard, we need a change in mentality."

Maison Albert Bichot, a family business with a long history but with an eye on the future, is and remains one of Burgundy's most influential producers. Through in-house winemaking, its own vinification, its own cellars and its own aging methods, Albert Bichot characterises its own style. Refined and seductive with an ambition to produce the best wines in the world.
