Frapin Cognac VSOP
The Frapin VSOP is one of the flagship products of the house of Frapin, recognised worldwide as an excellent choice for lovers of high-quality cognac. Made exclusively from grapes from the Grande Champagne region, the Premier Cru of Cognac, this VSOP (Very Superior Old Pale) offers a perfect balance of elegance, complexity and rich flavour. The Frapin VSOP is a blend of cognacs that have matured in oak barrels for a minimum of 4 to 12 years, creating a refined and deep flavour profile.
Tasting note
Nose
The nose of the Frapin VSOP is particularly refined, with a mix of ripe fruits such as peach, apricot and dried figs. There are also warm notes of vanilla, honey and subtle spices. The floral aspect of the cognac emerges with delicate aromas of flowers such as lime and orange blossom.
Taste
On the palate, Frapin VSOP offers a full and round mouthfeel with complex layers. Flavours of dried fruits like prunes and sultanas are complemented by sweet spices like cinnamon and nutmeg. The woody notes of the Limousin oak add subtle spiciness and tannin, providing a balance between sweetness and structure. There are also slight hints of caramel and nuts, adding richness to the flavour profile.
Finish
The finish is long, soft and elegant, with lingering notes of dried fruit, vanilla and a hint of oak. The balance between fruitiness, sweetness and spicy nuances lingers well, making this VSOP a complex but accessible cognac.
Frapin
The cognac house Frapin is a family business that has been involved in cognac production for more than 20 generations. Located in the Grande Champagne region of Cognac, the heart of the best cognac region, Frapin is one of the few producers that has full control over the entire production process: from grape growing to distilling and maturing the cognac.
History
Frapin has been associated with viticulture since 1270, making them one of the oldest and most renowned names in the world of cognac. The estate where Frapin is based, Château Fontpinot, is located in Segonzac, in the centre of the Grande Champagne region. This region is known as the ‘Premier Cru de Cognac’ because of the exceptional quality of the soil and microclimate, resulting in very refined and elegant cognacs.
Production process
Frapin uses only grapes from their own vineyards, ensuring complete control over quality. They only use Ugni Blanc grapes, which are particularly suitable for distilling cognac. What makes Frapin special is that they double distill their cognacs on the lees, which ensures extra richness and complexity in flavour. Their cognacs are then aged in Limousin oak barrels, which are known for their influence on the development of vanilla and wood tones in the cognac
