KETEL 1 is a Dutch genever brand from Nolet Distillery in Schiedam, a family business whose history dates back to 1691. In that year, Joannes Nolet established his own genever distillery. Eleven generations later, the family still distils in Schiedam, making Nolet one of the oldest family businesses within the Dutch spirits industry.

KETEL 1 itself was introduced in 1977 by Carel Nolet. The name refers to still number one, the oldest working copper distillation still in Schiedam. This historic still remains an important part of production and is traditionally heated by a wood fire.

The genever is made from grain distillates, matured grain eau de vie and a secret blend of herbs based on a family recipe. After distillation, the different components are brought together and personally approved by the Nolet family before bottling. Alongside KETEL 1 Original, richer and cask matured expressions were introduced later. In this way, KETEL 1 combines centuries of Schiedam genever tradition with a modern and approachable style.

Nolet is a Dutch family-owned distillery based in Schiedam, founded by Joannes Nolet in 1691. What began as a genever distillery developed over eleven generations into one of the oldest family businesses in the Netherlands. Distilling knowledge has continually been passed down within the family, while each generation has added new techniques and ideas to its traditional methods.

Nolet became internationally renowned through Ketel One Vodka, created in 1983. Its production combines modern distillation technology with traditional copper pot stills, a heritage also reflected in the Ketel One name. The distillery also produces NOLET’S Gin and, for the Dutch market, spirits including KETEL 1 Original genever and Proosje van Schiedam.

Despite the worldwide recognition of Ketel One, production remains closely connected to Schiedam and the Nolet family. The distillery is known for combining centuries of experience, technical innovation and a consistent house style. Nolet therefore represents more than one type of spirit: it is a broad Dutch distilling house producing genever, vodka, gin and liqueur.
