Hooghoudt Aged 25 years Single Cask #563

Rich and exceptional, the Aged 25 is a worthy successor to the Aged 24. This gin is part of a series of five. Each barrel represents one generation of Hooghoudt.

The series will eventually consist of 23 to 27 years aged 100% malt wine genevers from exceptional ex-Oloroso casks bottled at cask strength. Fired and casked in 1998 by Hero Jan, third generation Hooghoudt, after which the then copper kettle was allowed to retire. Now 25 years later bottled by Bert, fourth generation, as he and his children started a new distillery as part of the Grain Republic in Bad Nieuweschans. It has come full circle.

What am I tasting?

Hooghoudt Aged Genever 25 years is characterised by the full nose of currants and sultanas with a surprising hint of laurel and iris root. Subsequently, subtle aromas of sandalwood and juniper unfold.

A warm and distinctive taste of sherry Oloroso with toasted almonds, sun-dried fig and vanilla. The flavours from the wood are fully absorbed into the liquid. Powerful, elegant with a clear role for spicy and savoury flavour notes. All this is balanced by fresh flavour notes of sandalwood and bay leaf. A seductively long and full finish.
