Baileys is an Irish cream liqueur introduced in 1974 and is regarded as the world’s first commercial Irish Cream. The brand was created around the idea of bringing together two distinctly Irish products: Irish whiskey and fresh dairy cream. After around two years of experimentation, the final recipe emerged, combining whiskey and other spirits with Irish cream and flavours of cocoa and vanilla.

Production takes place entirely in Ireland. Fresh milk from Irish dairy farms is processed into cream before being combined with whiskey and the other ingredients. At the time, successfully creating a stable combination of alcohol and fresh cream was a considerable technical achievement and formed the basis of an entirely new liqueur category.

From Baileys Original Irish Cream, the range expanded with various flavours and seasonal expressions. Even so, the original combination of Irish cream and whiskey remains at the heart of the brand. Baileys therefore did more than create a distinctive style of its own: it also played an important role in establishing cream liqueur as an internationally recognised drinks category.
