Malibu

Malibu is an international liqueur brand best known for its combination of white rum and coconut. Its story began in 1978 under the name Coco Rico, before the product was launched as Malibu in 1980. The distinctive white bottle and tropical character quickly helped establish the brand as a familiar name in cocktails and long drinks.

Malibu Original is a coconut liqueur made with white rum distilled from sugarcane molasses. The rum has strong links with Barbados, where the base spirit was produced for many years at the West Indies Rum Distillery. Today, Malibu is blended and bottled mainly in Canada, with additional production taking place in countries including the United States and Spain.

Alongside Malibu Original, the brand has developed several fruit flavoured expressions and ready-to-drink cocktails. Even so, the combination of white rum and coconut remains at the heart of Malibu. It has become particularly closely associated with tropical cocktails such as the Piña Colada. Malibu has been part of the Pernod Ricard group since 2005.
