Scallywag

Scallywag by Douglas Laing is a lively Speyside Blended Malt Whisky, inspired by the villainous (but charming) nature of the fox terrier on the label. This blended malt is blended from some of the best single malts from the Speyside region, including well-known distilleries such as Mortlach, Macallan, and Glenrothes. The use of a high percentage of sherry casks gives Scallywag a distinctive sweet, fruity and spicy depth, typical of the Speyside style. 

Tasting note

Nose

Full and inviting, with rich notes of dark fruits such as sultanas, plums, and dried figs. Sweet notes of butterscotch, caramel and vanilla are complemented by hints of cinnamon and nutmeg, which combine for a warm and spicy character.

Taste

Creamy and full on the palate, with intense notes of dark chocolate, toffee and candied orange. The sherry casks add layers of sultanas and dried fruit, which combine well with a slight spiciness of cinnamon and a hint of pepper. As the whisky develops, a gentle hint of toasted almonds and a subtle malty sweetness emerges.

Finish

Long and warming, with a lingering sweetness of caramel and honey, accompanied by a gentle spicy edge and a final hint of dark chocolate. The finish lingers soft and sweet, making for a delicious, satisfying aftertaste.

History

Douglas Laing & Co. was founded in 1948 by Fred Douglas Laing in Glasgow, Scotland. The company began as a dealer and blender of whisky, but soon focused on selecting and bottling single cask and small batch whiskies.

Douglas Laing has always remained a family business, with the knowledge and passion for whisky passed from generation to generation. After Fred Douglas Laing, the company was run by his son, Fred Laing Jr, and later Fred's daughter Cara Laing and her husband Chris Leggat also joined the company.
