Carsebridge 28 years 75cl - Bot. 1990's

Carsebridge is a name that resonates with fans of old grain whiskies. This now-silent Lowland distillery produced spirit mainly for blends, but its true beauty shines in rare single grain bottlings like this 28-year-old release by James MacArthur's. Bottled in the 1990s and presented in a classic 75cl bottle, it’s a graceful time capsule from a bygone era.

Extended aging has mellowed the spirit into a layered, creamy whisky full of subtle sweetness and refined oak character. A true delight for those who appreciate the elegance of mature grain whisky.

Tasting Notes

Nose

Gentle aromas of vanilla, coconut, and candied pear, followed by subtle notes of old books, marzipan, and a hint of white chocolate. A touch of oak and crème brûlée adds further depth.

Palate

Creamy and silky on the tongue. Notes of fudge, toasted coconut, and butterscotch blend beautifully with caramelised banana and a dash of cinnamon. Elegant, rich and well-balanced.

Finish

Long and warming, with soft spice, hints of oak, and a sweet trail of vanilla and honey. A finish that lingers gently and gracefully.

For those seeking something truly special, James MacArthur's offers a window into the history of Scottish whisky at its finest.

Carsebridge Distillery

Carsebridge was founded near Alloa in the Scottish Lowlands by John Bald & Co. in 1799. The distillery initially produced malt whisky, but converted to grain whisky in 1852. Two Coffey stills were installed, allowing continuous distillation on a much larger scale. Carsebridge consequently developed into one of Scotland’s most important grain whisky distilleries.

In 1877, Carsebridge became one of the six founding members of the Distillers Company Limited, an organisation that would play a defining role in the development of blended Scotch whisky. In 1966, the distillery became part of Scottish Grain Distillers and a third Coffey still was added. The complex was further modernised and also processed grain-production by-products into animal feed.

Carsebridge closed in 1983 during a major restructuring of the whisky industry and was largely demolished in 1992. For many years, no official single grain bottlings appeared. Today, the whisky is mainly known through rare, often very old releases from independent bottlers and a small number of later official expressions. These frequently show vanilla, caramel, coconut, tropical fruit and refined oak.
