Tasting Note

Nose

A relatively fresh start with green apple and even a hint of grapefruit. Of course, we also taste the 18-year ageing in oak casks, as the soft wood aromas give character to this full-bodied whisky. Later, the green apple turns into caramelised apple and we even have a hint of smoke. As if the brushwood from the apple orchard is smouldering in the corner.

Taste

Full and round is the first thing that comes to mind, and tasty, because tasty this mature whisky certainly is. Elegant wood notes of toasted oak and grandfather cigar boxes. Again, the sweet apple with elegant fresh notes. Everything is in there, but all very well balanced.

Finish

Everything comes together here, sweet fruit, roasted wood and a fresh blend of spices. Wonderfully long and this impressed the tasting panel.

About Loch Lomond 18 years

Master Cooper Tommy Wallace has selected the finest oak casks for this 18-year-old whisky. Patience is put to the test and knowledge of wood is very important for this. Tommy Wallace is one of the most experienced coopers in the world and after his career at the Loch Lomond Cooperage (indeed, they have their own cooperage at Loch Lomond) he became President of the National Cooperage Federation. In other words Tommy does know which barrels to choose.

Time and nature ensured that all the flavours from the cask were incorporated into the final whisky. Loch Lomond 18 years is not cold-filtered to preserve all the aromas and flavours.

The distillery

Loch Lomond distillery is located in the town of Alexandria on the border of the Lowlands and Highlands. For decades, the area, along with Speyside, was the epicentre for the Single Malt whisky industry. However, several distilleries have closed down over the years which makes the "Loch Lomond Distillery" unique of its kind. The distillery with the eponymous name of Scotland's mythical and largest lake is characterised by the variety of whisky it distils. It is one of the few distilleries in Scotland that commercialises aged single malt whisky, non-aged single malt whisky, blended whisky and 100% single (peated) grain whisky. Also, the whisky comes from the Loch Lomond distillery, the favourite whisky of Captain Haddock from the Tintin comic strip.
