Lagavulin 16 years 'White Horse Distillers' Bot. 1990's
From a private collection, we were able to acquire this aged Lagavulin 16 years. This 16-year-old is believed to have been bottled in the 1990s. As you can see from the photos, the packaging has quite a bit of damage, but this was taken into account when setting the price.
Tasting note
Nose
On opening, Lagavulin 16 offers a powerful nose of peat smoke, complemented by a maritime saltiness typical of Islay whiskies. Among these smoky aromas are hints of dried fruits, such as sultanas and figs, with an underlying sweetness of vanilla and toffee.
Taste
On the palette, the first impression is that of smokiness and complexity. The peat is prominent but not overwhelming, with a balanced mix of sea salt, seaweed and a mild pepperiness. Layers of dark chocolate and leather emerge, as well as a subtle hint of cinnamon and nutmeg providing warm spice.
Finish
The finish is long and lingering, with the smoke slowly waning to make room for a slightly bitter oak presence and a sweet, almost malty aftertaste that leaves the palate clean and invites another sip.
