Springbank 10 years 2011 - 2021 Local Barley
The Springbank 10 years 2011 - 2021 Local Barley is a beautiful expression of the craftsmanship and pride of the Springbank distillery. With a limited release of only 15,000 bottles, this whisky provides a rare glimpse into the unique terroir of Campbeltown. Made with locally grown barley, this whisky highlights the authentic flavors of the region and showcases the character for which Springbank is renowned. Distilled in 2011 and bottled after ten years in 2021, this dram is a subtle blend of earthy depth, light fruitiness, and a hint of smoke. It pays homage to Campbeltown’s rich heritage and offers a tasting experience that is both classic and surprising.
Tasting note
Nose
The nose opens with an inviting freshness of green apple and pear, blended with earthy notes and a hint of freshly cut grass. Subtle touches of honey and vanilla add a sweet edge, while a light saltiness and a hint of gentle smoke round out the profile beautifully.
Taste
On the palate, this whisky is full-bodied and balanced. Rich malty notes and nutty accents combine beautifully with hints of toffee and ripe apricot. The soft peat smoke is present but refined, adding complexity without overpowering. A pleasant spiciness from white pepper and ginger adds warmth to the tasting experience.
Finish
The finish is long and satisfying, with a dry maltiness that lingers, along with a touch of oak and a light fruity aftertaste. The smoke gradually fades, while the saltiness adds a delicate, refined touch that invites another sip.
Springbank distillery
Springbank Distillery is located in Campbeltown, a historic whisky region on Scotland's Kintyre Peninsula. Founded in 1828 by the Mitchell family, it is one of the oldest independent distilleries in Scotland and one of the few remaining distilleries in Campbeltown, once known as the "whisky capital of the world."
Springbank Distillery is unique in its complete control over the production process, with all steps - from malting to bottling - taking place on one site. The distillery produces three different single malt whiskies: Springbank, Hazelburn and Longrow.
Springbank whisky is lightly peated and partially triple-distilled, creating a complex and rich flavour profile with notes of fruit, saltiness and a subtle smokiness. Hazelburn is unpeated and triple-distilled, making it a smooth, delicate whisky with light, sweet and malty notes. Longrow is heavily peated and double-distilled, resulting in a robust and smoky whisky with rich, earthy flavours.
The diversity in production methods and flavour profiles makes Springbank Distillery a unique and valued player in the whisky world.
