Glenglassaugh Portsoy
Glenglassaugh Portsoy is a bold and expressive single malt that captures the maritime soul of this revived coastal distillery. Named after the nearby fishing village of Portsoy, it mirrors the rugged north coast of Aberdeenshire - where salt, smoke and oak intertwine. Matured in a combination of bourbon, sherry and port casks and bottled at 49.1%, it represents Glenglassaugh at its richest and most intense.
Tasting Notes
Nose
Deep and indulgent with dark chocolate, roasted nuts and candied orange peel. Hints of seaweed, smoked malt and raisins follow, accented by espresso and a touch of coastal salt.
Palate
Full-bodied and oily with flavours of dark chocolate, toffee and black cherry. The smoke is gentle and rounded - more smouldering embers than heavy peat - intertwined with maritime salt and mineral notes. Sherry and port casks contribute layers of dried fruit, figs and subtle spice.
Finish
Long and warming with lingering cocoa, salted caramel and soft woodsmoke. A delicate interplay of sweetness and coastal dryness defines the elegant close.
A rich, smoky and deeply satisfying Glenglassaugh - where sea air, oak and time collide in perfect harmony.
Glenglassaugh Distillery
Glenglassaugh Distillery is located on the scenic coast of the Moray Firth, near the village of Portsoy in the Scottish Highlands. Founded in 1875 by Colonel James Moir, Glenglassaugh has a rich history marked by several periods of closure and revival.
A specific feature of Glenglassaugh is the use of pure water from the Glassaugh Burn, which contributes to the fresh and lively character of their whiskies. Glenglassaugh whiskies are known for their fruity and floral notes, often combined with a subtle spiciness and honey.
After a long closure, the distillery was revived in 2008, leading to a revival of their traditional production methods and a focus on quality. The whiskies are matured in a combination of ex-bourbon and sherry casks, making for a complex and balanced taste experience. Glenglassaugh Distillery remains a beloved name among whisky lovers and valued for its dedication to craftsmanship.
