Glengoyne 25 Years 2022 Limited Release

Matured exclusively in hand selected sherry casks for a full quarter century, this Glengoyne 25 delivers a decidedly classic, refined sherry style, and the 2022 Limited Release also comes in a new heavy bespoke bottle with a metal stopper and a luxurious presentation featuring an oak box interior. Expect a bright amber whisky with red fruits, old leather and brown sugar on the nose, moving into stewed fruits, cinnamon and a clear Seville marmalade tang, finishing very long with spicy liquorice and a slow drying grip; Ruben Luyten (WhiskyNotes) scored this release 90/100.

Tasting Notes

Nose

Red fruits up front, think red berries and cherry, alongside old leather and brown sugar. Then figs and dates, cinnamon pastry and a touch of Moscovado sugar. Subtle polished wood, a hint of tobacco, and a sherry layer that feels more elegant than bulky.

Palate

Rich, yet well controlled. Dark notes of coffee and bitter chocolate combine with leather and orange, including marmalade. Stewed fruits keep it juicy, while soft wood tones and cinnamon powder add structure. Toward the end: nuts, cedar and pipe tobacco, with a small spicy lift that tightens the sherry into a drier line.

Finish

Very long, deeply sherried and slowly drying. Warm spices, tobacco, walnut and chocolate linger, with a spicy liquorice character and a peppery tickle in the tail.

Glengoyne Distillery

Glengoyne Distillery is located at the foot of the Dumgoyne Hills, just north of Glasgow, on the border of the Scottish Highlands and Lowlands. Founded in 1833, Glengoyne is known for its traditional and artisanal approach to whisky production. The distillery is located in a picturesque setting, surrounded by green hills and the pure water of nearby springs.

A unique feature of Glengoyne is the use of air-dried barley, instead of the usual peat-drying process, resulting in a mild whisky without smokiness. Glengoyne whiskies are known for their rich, fruity flavour profile with notes of apple, pear, toffee and a subtle hint of spice. The slow distillation process and maturation in a combination of ex-bourbon and sherry casks contribute to the whiskies' complexity and depth.
