Laphroaig Triple Wood

Laphroaig Triple Wood is a whisky that combines Laphroaig's iconic peat smoke with a complex, wood-aged richness. This expression has undergone a unique maturation journey in three different cask types: first in ex-bourbon casks, then in smaller quarter casks, and finally in European oak sherry casks. Each stage adds its own character, resulting in a whisky that is robust, smoky and silky smooth, with deep wood and fruit flavours. For lovers of Laphroaig's distinct style, the Triple Wood offers an adventurous and satisfying taste experience.

Tasting note

Nose

The nose begins with an intense wave of classic Laphroaig turf smoke - medicinal, iodine-rich and full of seaweed. As the smoke unfolds, hints of sweet vanilla and caramel emerge from the bourbon casks, along with an earthy scent of leather. Further down the nose, a slightly fruity note of dried figs and sultanas unfolds, revealing the influence of the sherry casks and giving the whisky an elegant depth.

Taste

The palate is full and powerful, with an immediate smoky onset. The peat smoke is nicely complemented by a subtle sweetness of honey and toffee, which comes from the bourbon maturation. The quarter casks add creamy texture and intensity, with hints of spiciness, such as nutmeg and a hint of cinnamon. As the whisky develops, the influence of the sherry casks emerges with notes of dark chocolate, dried fruit and a slight nuttiness, adding complexity.

Finish

The finish is long, smoky and warming, with a balance of sweetness and a hint of bitterness. The peat lingers, along with notes of soft oak, dark cocoa and a slightly salty undertone reminiscent of the Islay coast.

Laphroaig Distillery

Laphroaig Distillery is located on the south coast of the island of Islay, right on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean. Founded in 1815 by Donald and Alexander Johnston, Laphroaig has a long and rich history of producing some of the most distinctive and beloved Islay whiskies.

A specific characteristic of Laphroaig is its distinct peat smoke and medicinal flavour, which gives the whiskies their unique and recognisable character. The distillery traditionally uses copper pot stills and dries the barley over peat fire, creating the distinctive smoke and iodine aromas. Laphroaig whiskies are mainly matured in ex-bourbon casks, which contributes to the balance of sweet and smoky flavours.

Laphroaig whiskies are famous for their complex flavour profile, with notes of seaweed, medicinal smoke, salt, and a subtle sweetness. The robust and powerful flavour, combined with a long, warm finish, makes Laphroaig a favourite among heavily peated whisky lovers. Its unique location, traditional production methods and distinctive flavour profile make Laphroaig an iconic name in the world of single malt whisky.
