Cardhu 14 years 2021 Special Release 'The Scarlet Blossoms of Black Rock'

Lithe and light-bodied, this is a superb Cardhu expression, set off perfectly by a mysterious note of Parma violets and with all the timeless elegance of a perfect single flower.

This is a harmonious and utterly charming Cardhu, its aromas fruity and meadow-sweet, its taste sweet, luscious and well rounded, accented by a striking and unusual perfumed note.

Tasting notes:

Appearance: Bright polished brass with gold highlights.

Body: Light to medium.

Nose: The mild nose is fresh and lightly fruity, as gentle aromas of white grape and lychee frolic with sharper hints of green apple, pear and a trace of orange zest, all enrobed by a hint of buttery pastry. Rising above these, a light spicy note reveals more of the wine-seasoned wood. A drop of water introduces a light note of meadow flowers, which become distinctly honeyed with time.

Palate: A soft, creamy-smooth and quite full texture, the sweet taste suggesting home-made toffees. Soon, that taste becomes more fragrant and hints of Parma violets, a note further enriched by winey red apple and pear fruit and made more appetising still by crisp, clean oak. A dash of water softens it to a delightful creamy-sweet freshness, leaving just a hint of spice.

Finish: Short, sweet, clean and warming, with lingering perfume in the aftertaste. With water smoother still, as a warming pinch of white pepper appears, while there is a final burst of green apple in the aftertaste.

Cardhu Distillery

Cardhu Distillery is located in the heart of the Speyside region, near the village of Knockando in Moray. Founded in 1824 by John and Helen Cumming, Cardhu has a rich history and is known as one of the few distilleries co-founded and run by a woman. Helen Cumming played a crucial role in the distillery's early years.

A unique feature of Cardhu is the use of pure spring water from the nearby Mannoch Hills, which contributes to the purity and quality of their whiskies. Cardhu whiskies are known for their smooth and accessible flavour profiles, with notes of honey, apple, vanilla and a subtle hint of spiciness. The distillery uses traditional copper pot stills and a slow distillation process, ensuring a rich and balanced spirit.

The whiskies are mainly matured in ex-bourbon and sherry casks, creating a deep and complex flavour. Cardhu is a key component in the famous Johnnie Walker blended whiskies, but their single malts are loved for their refinement and balance. The combination of historic traditions, high-quality production and a beautiful location makes Cardhu a respected name in the world of Scotch whisky.
