I.W. Harper is a historic American bourbon brand founded by German immigrant Isaac Wolfe Bernheim. Together with his brother Bernard, he established Bernheim Brothers in Paducah, Kentucky, in 1872. The name combined Isaac’s initials with Harper, which he considered a strong and distinctly American name. The bourbon quickly gained popularity and began winning international awards from 1885 onwards.

During Prohibition, I.W. Harper remained available as medicinal whiskey. In the decades that followed, the brand developed a strong reputation outside the United States, especially in Japan. While I.W. Harper disappeared from the American market, it remained a familiar international name. In 2015, the bourbon returned to the United States after more than twenty years.

I.W. Harper is now owned by Diageo and is known for an elegant, approachable Kentucky bourbon style. Typical notes include caramel, vanilla, sweet corn, fruit and refined oak. Alongside the classic bourbon, the brand has released longer-aged expressions and whiskeys finished in distinctive casks. I.W. Harper therefore combines a long Kentucky heritage with a polished international identity.
