The brand is part of the Jim Beam family and was launched in 1988 by Booker Noe, the grandson of the legendary Jim Beam. What sets Booker's Bourbon apart is that it is unfiltered and bottled at cask strength, meaning the whiskey is bottled directly from the barrel without dilution with water. This results in a robust, powerful flavour.

Tasting note

Nose

On first approach, the nose opens with a powerful explosion of oak, infused with sweet caramel and vanilla. After a few moments, hints of dried fruits such as sultanas and figs emerge, followed by hints of cloves and cinnamon. There is also a subtle hint of toasted almonds and tobacco, highlighting the complexity of the aroma.

Taste

On the tongue, this whiskey begins with a rich, full-bodied taste of sweet caramel, intertwined with deep notes of dark chocolate and toasted oak. The influence of years of cask ageing is evident, with firm wood notes accompanied by spicy accents of pepper, nutmeg and a hint of aniseed. As the whiskey develops on the palate, more subtle layers emerge, including hints of orange peel, honey and toasted coconut.

Finish

The aftertaste is long and warming, as to be expected from a whiskey of this strength. A gentle sweetness lingers, along with spicy oak notes and a little bit of smokiness. The finish ends with a slight tingle, inviting you to take the next sip.

Jim Beam is one of the best-known names in Kentucky bourbon and continues a family tradition that began in 1795. That year, Jacob Beam sold his first barrel of whiskey. His great-grandson James B. ‘Jim’ Beam, the fourth generation of the family to distil, later gave the brand its present name. After Prohibition had halted production, he rebuilt the distillery in Clermont with family and friends following its repeal in 1933.

Jim Beam is made from a grain recipe based primarily on corn, together with rye and malted barley. Kentucky’s limestone-filtered water, the sour mash process and a carefully preserved yeast strain contribute to its recognisable house style. After double distillation, the bourbon matures in new, charred American oak barrels. Jim Beam Original is aged for four years and is known for an approachable combination of caramel, vanilla, grain, oak and gentle spice.

Alongside the classic White Label, the range includes expressions such as Jim Beam Black, Double Oak and Single Barrel. The distillery is also associated with renowned bourbon brands including Knob Creek, Booker’s, Baker’s and Basil Hayden.
