Moulin Touchais Coteaux du Layon 2004

The Moulin Touchais Coteaux du Layon 2004 is a beautifully matured sweet Chenin Blanc from the Loire, offering even greater nuance and depth thanks to extended bottle ageing. The wine is rich and layered, yet remains remarkably fresh and precise due to its natural acidity. A classic Coteaux du Layon for those who appreciate maturity, complexity, and elegance.

Tasting Notes

Colour

Deep golden yellow with pronounced amber tones.

Aroma

Highly complex aromas of honey, dried apricot, candied orange peel, and apple compote, complemented by beeswax, almond, and gentle spice.

Taste

Rich and concentrated with flavours of ripe stone fruit, honey, and caramelised apple. The sweetness is generous and rounded, perfectly balanced by fresh acidity that brings tension and refinement.

Finish

Very long and harmonious, with lingering sweet fruit, bright acidity, and an elegant, gently spiced finish.

Food Pairing

Beautiful with foie gras, blue cheeses, apple or stone fruit desserts, or enjoyed on its own as a contemplative wine. Also very suitable for further ageing.

Producer

Moulin Touchais is an iconic Loire estate, renowned worldwide for its long-aged Coteaux du Layon wines. By deliberately releasing wines only after extended cellar ageing, the winery achieves a distinctive style that combines maturity, freshness, and remarkable complexity.

Moulin Touchais

Moulin Touchais is a historic family-owned estate from Coteaux du Layon in France’s Loire Valley. Founded in 1787, the domaine is now continued by the eighth generation of the Touchais family, making it one of the oldest wine estates in Anjou. Over the centuries, the family has built an impressive reserve of mature vintages, stored deep underground in an extensive network of cellars.

Moulin Touchais produces sweet white wine exclusively from Chenin Blanc. A small proportion of the grapes is harvested relatively early to preserve sufficient fresh acidity. The remaining fruit is left longer on the vines and picked in several stages once it has developed greater ripeness and concentration. This distinctive approach creates a natural balance between sweetness and freshness. Following vinification, each vintage matures in bottle in the estate’s cellars for at least ten years before being released. Moulin Touchais is therefore renowned for complex wines with exceptional ageing potential, and several mature vintages are often available alongside one another.
