Description

Moulin Touchais Coteaux du Layon 1968

The Moulin Touchais Coteaux du Layon 1968 is an exceptionally rare and monumental sweet Chenin Blanc from the Loire Valley. After more than half a century of ageing, the wine reveals remarkable depth and an almost astonishing freshness. This is a wine for true connoisseurs, where time, concentration, and elegance meet at the highest level.

Tasting Notes

Colour

Deep amber with copper and mahogany hues.

Aroma

Highly intense and complex aromas of honey, dried apricot, fig, and candied citrus, followed by beeswax, nuts, caramel, tea, spice, and a subtle earthy nuance.

Taste

Deep and concentrated, showing layers of dried fruit, honey, and caramelised apple. The sweetness is rich and generous, yet remains strikingly vibrant thanks to fresh acidity that carries and refines the wine. Complex, harmonious, and perfectly balanced.

Finish

Exceptionally long and layered, with sweet, spicy, and lightly savoury notes slowly fading with elegance.

Food Pairing

Beautiful with foie gras, blue cheeses, or desserts featuring nuts and caramel. Also extraordinary on its own as a contemplative wine, where each sip reveals new detail.

Producer

Moulin Touchais is a legendary Loire estate, celebrated worldwide for its deliberately long-aged Coteaux du Layon wines. By ageing bottles for decades in its own cellars, the domaine demonstrates the extraordinary longevity, freshness, and timeless class of Chenin Blanc from the Layon. Vintage 1968 stands among the true icons of the appellation.

Moulin Touchais

Moulin Touchais is a historic family-owned estate from Coteaux du Layon in France’s Loire Valley. Founded in 1787, the domaine is now continued by the eighth generation of the Touchais family, making it one of the oldest wine estates in Anjou. Over the centuries, the family has built an impressive reserve of mature vintages, stored deep underground in an extensive network of cellars.

Moulin Touchais produces sweet white wine exclusively from Chenin Blanc. A small proportion of the grapes is harvested relatively early to preserve sufficient fresh acidity. The remaining fruit is left longer on the vines and picked in several stages once it has developed greater ripeness and concentration. This distinctive approach creates a natural balance between sweetness and freshness. Following vinification, each vintage matures in bottle in the estate’s cellars for at least ten years before being released. Moulin Touchais is therefore renowned for complex wines with exceptional ageing potential, and several mature vintages are often available alongside one another.
