Nose

Intense aromas of dark fruits such as plums and raisins, combined with caramel, dark chocolate, and a hint of cinnamon and nutmeg spice. Subtle notes of toasted nuts and vanilla complete the profile.

Palate

Full-bodied and robust, with rich flavors of toffee, butterscotch, and dried fruits. Spicy notes of clove and pepper provide balance, while the oak adds a gentle smokiness. A touch of orange zest and honey adds a refreshing brightness.

Finish

Long and warming, with lingering notes of caramel, dark chocolate, and an elegant hint of toasted nuts and spices. A complex and luxurious finish.

El Dorado is the best known rum brand of Guyana’s Demerara Distillers Limited and builds on a rum tradition in the country stretching back to the seventeenth century. The brand was introduced internationally in 1992 with the El Dorado 15 Year Old Special Reserve. In doing so, DDL deliberately positioned aged Demerara rum as a premium product at a time when much Guyanese rum was still primarily sold in bulk for use by other brands.

El Dorado is produced at Diamond Distillery, the only remaining active rum distillery in Guyana. Particularly remarkable is its collection of historic stills originating from long vanished sugar estates. These include the wooden Coffey still from Enmore and the wooden pot stills from Versailles and Port Mourant. Together with more modern equipment, they produce highly distinctive distillates that can be matured separately and combined through blending.

The range extends from approachable aged rums to older blends, Single Still bottlings and limited releases. El Dorado is therefore not only an important international rum brand, but also a living connection to centuries of Demerara rum history.
