Dailuaine 1974 - 1995 Connoisseurs Choice

Distilled in 1974, this Dailuaine was bottled by Gordon & MacPhail in 1995 in the Connoisseurs Choice series. This series has been around since the late 1970s and has changed labels regularly. Colloquially, this version is called 'old map label'.

Tasting notes

Nose

The nose reveals rich notes of ripe fruit and malty sweetness, intertwined with hints of honey and a touch of spice.

Taste

On the tongue, a complex harmony of flavours reveals itself; sweet barley, dried fruit and a subtle smokiness, accentuated by a slight spiciness that offers depth and warmth.

Finish

The finish is long and satisfying, with an elegant balance between the sweetness of fruit and the earthiness of oak, fading gently, leaving a lingering reminder of the quality of this Speyside malt.

More about Dailuaine Distillery

Dailuaine was once, in the 19th century, Speyside's largest distillery and it was home to the first pagoda-roofed kiln in Scotland. However, that distillery perished in a fire in 1917. The newly rebuilt distillery was taken over by DCL (now Diageo) who used the "meaty" spirit as a filler for their many blends. Like most single malt whiskies in the Diageo portfolio, the Flora & Fauna release was Dailuaine's very first bottling at the distillery. Previously, Dailuaine's single malt was available in the form of independent releases like this one.
