The Dailuaine distillery may not be widely known, but among whisky enthusiasts it is cherished for producing bold and characterful Speyside malts. This single cask expression was distilled in 2010 and bottled in 2023 by Berry Bros & Rudd. It matured in an Oloroso hogshead and was bottled at cask strength of 50.3%. A stunning dram combining spicy sherry notes, rich malt depth and elegant fruitiness. Only 262 bottles available.

Tasting note

Nose

Dark raisins, plums and walnuts, followed by clove, leather and a hint of espresso. The Oloroso influence is clear but beautifully integrated.

Palate

Full and intense. Bursting with dark chocolate, candied orange peel, roasted nuts and dried fruits. A touch of spice adds vibrancy.

Finish

Long and warming with notes of cocoa, wood spice and gentle tannins. Elegantly drying with a whisper of sherry sweetness.

Dailuaine Distillery

Dailuaine Distillery is located in the Speyside region, near the village of Carron in Moray. Founded in 1852 by William Mackenzie, Dailuaine has a rich history in whisky production and is known for its high-quality single malts. The distillery is picturesquely located at the foot of Mount Ben Rinnes, which provides a constant source of pure water.

A unique feature of Dailuaine is the use of worm tubs, a traditional cooling system that contributes to the full and complex flavour profile of their whiskies. Dailuaine whiskies are known for their robust and full-bodied character, with rich notes of malt, dried fruit, honey and a subtle spiciness. The distillery matures its whiskies mainly in ex-bourbon and sherry casks, making for a deep and complex taste experience.

Berry Bros. & Rudd is one of the oldest and most respected independent bottlers in the world. The company was founded in 1698 and is headquartered in St James's Street, London. The family business originally began as a coffee merchant, but soon expanded into the wine and spirits trade. Today, Berry Bros. & Rudd is known for its high-quality whiskies, as well as a wide range of wines and other spirits.

History

Founded in 1698 by the widow Bourne, Berry Bros. & Rudd began as a shop selling coffee, tea and spices. Soon the shop became a meeting place for London's elite, and the company expanded into selling wine and spirits. Over the years, Berry Bros. & Rudd has built strong ties with the British royal family. The company is a court supplier and has received several royal warrants throughout its long history.

Dailuaine was founded in 1852 by William Mackenzie, near the River Spey and at the foot of Ben Rinnes. Over the following decades, the distillery developed into an important producer of malt whisky. In 1889, architect Charles Doig created his first pagoda-shaped ventilator roof here, a design that would later define the familiar silhouette of countless Scottish distilleries. Dailuaine merged with Talisker in 1898 and became part of the Distillers Company Limited, a predecessor of today’s Diageo, in 1925.

Following a major fire in 1917, the distillery was rebuilt. During a modernisation in 1960, the number of stills was increased from four to six. Most of the production is still intended for blended Scotch whisky. As a single malt, Dailuaine is best known through its 16-year-old Flora & Fauna bottling and releases from independent bottlers.

Dailuaine is known for a full, robust Speyside spirit. Relatively rapid distillation and limited copper contact help preserve its heavier character, with malt, nuts, ripe and dried fruit, spice and occasionally a lightly meaty or sulphury edge.

Berry Bros. & Rudd is one of Britain’s oldest and most distinguished wine and spirits merchants. Its history began in 1698, when the Widow Bourne opened a grocery shop on St James’s Street in London. During the nineteenth century, the company increasingly focused on wine and spirits, while the Berry name became permanently associated with the business. The Rudd family joined in the twentieth century.

Berry Bros. & Rudd also has an exceptionally long heritage in whisky. Its oldest known own-label cask bottling dates from 1853, making the company one of Britain’s oldest independent bottlers. In 1923, Francis Berry and Hugh Rudd also created Cutty Sark, a lighter blended Scotch that achieved considerable international success.
