Adelphi's Laudale 12 years 2023 Batch Release No.6

Adelphi has a rich history. From 1825, it was a distillery in Glasgow's Gorbals district, distilling spirits using water from Loch Katrine. The distillery closed its doors and production ended in the early 20th century. The Adelphi name was revived in 1993 by Jamie Walker, the great-grandson of former owner Archibald.

This time, not as a distillery, but as an independent bottler. In the existence of this independent bottler, many great names have come to market under the Adelphi label. Each one top quality from Scotland's best distilleries.

Laudale, bottled in 2023, is the sixth edition of Adelphi's heavily sherried Speyside brand. This time, the Laudale is a Dailuaine. Previous Laudale bottlings came from Glenfarclas, Glen Elgin and Linkwood, among others.

So this time it is Dailuaine. This distillery was once, in the 19th century, the largest in Speyside and was the very first Kiln with a pagoda roof in Scotland. However, the old distillery was completely reduced to ashes in 1917 and the new Dailuaine distillery was built. At this time, the distillery also came into the hands of Diageo and remains its owner to this day. Dailuaine spirit is known for its meaty character and is highly sought after by blenders for this very reason. As a result, there is relatively little Single Malt available from this distillery.

Tasting note:

Nose: candied orange and syrupy malt biscuits, barley water and nutty fruitcake.

Flavour: superbly sweet, with layers of burnt brown sugar, gingerbread and cinnamon swirls.

Finish: Honeyed Fruit, more tangy orange, candied nuts and charred oak

Dailuaine Distillery

Dailuaine Distillery is located in the Speyside region, near the village of Carron in Moray. Founded in 1852 by William Mackenzie, Dailuaine has a rich history in whisky production and is known for its high-quality single malts. The distillery is picturesquely located at the foot of Mount Ben Rinnes, which provides a constant source of pure water.

A unique feature of Dailuaine is the use of worm tubs, a traditional cooling system that contributes to the full and complex flavour profile of their whiskies. Dailuaine whiskies are known for their robust and full-bodied character, with rich notes of malt, dried fruit, honey and a subtle spiciness. The distillery matures its whiskies mainly in ex-bourbon and sherry casks, making for a deep and complex taste experience.

Dailuaine mainly produces whisky for blends, but their single malts are also loved by connoisseurs for their unique character and depth. The combination of a beautiful location, traditional techniques and high-quality production makes Dailuaine a respected name among whisky connoisseurs worldwide.
