Glenmorangie 18 years - bot. 2000's
Glenmorangie 18 years, bottled in the early 2000s, is a refined timepiece from a period when the Highland distillery was already celebrated for its smooth and elegant house style, yet proving how well its whisky can age. This expression combines the subtle influence of bourbon and sherry casks, delivering a rich and layered dram that remains a favourite among connoisseurs.
Tasting Notes
Nose
Soft and balanced. Aromas of honey, ripe apricot, vanilla, and orange blossom. Subtle hints of raisins and toasted almonds enrich the bouquet.
Palate
Silky and elegant. Flavours of toffee, ripe peach, roasted hazelnuts, and a gentle touch of sherry sweetness. Balanced with light spice from cinnamon and oak.
Finish
Long and refined. A warm finish of soft spice, orange zest, and a whisper of dark chocolate lingers beautifully.
Glenmorangie Distillery
Glenmorangie Distillery is located in Tain, Ross-shire, on the east coast of the Scottish Highlands. Founded in 1843 by William Matheson, Glenmorangie has a long and rich history in whisky production. The distillery is located near the Dornoch Firth, which provides a unique source of pure water, essential to the production process.
A specific feature of Glenmorangie is the use of the tallest copper pot stills in Scotland, which are over five metres high. These stills produce an exceptionally pure and delicate spirit. Glenmorangie is known for its innovative approach to barrel maturation, using a wide range of cask types including ex-bourbon, sherry and wine casks. This results in complex and rich flavour profiles.
Glenmorangie whiskies are loved for their smooth and fruity character, with notes of vanilla, honey, and citrus. The distillery remains a pioneer in the whisky world, with a strong focus on quality and craftsmanship, keeping Glenmorangie one of the most respected names in the world of single malt whisky.
