Ledaig 10 years
At Tobermory two distinct single malts are made for half the year each: a non-peated Tobermory and a heavily-peated (30 – 40ppm phenol) Ledaig. Each malt reflects the inspiring island – from the bright and colourful Tobermory with vibrant fruit, spice and a subtle salty notes, reflective of the harbour waters, to the more robust, peated Ledaig, with sweet smoke and earthy notes.
Tasting Notes:
Colour: Bright lemony gold.
Nose: Sweet briny smokiness with distinct island character and playful notes that hint at mild antiseptic, creosote, wax polish, mint chocolate and floral seaside aromas. Soft peat, gentle smoke.
Palate: Tantalisingly sweet, medicinal flavours infused with enticing sparks of spicy pepper and dried fruit with rich peaty smoke and a velvety vanilla and malty creaminess.
Finish: A wondrous union of sublimely spicy white pepper, the vibrant sweetness of liquorice and a kick of cloves with a exquisite lingering saltiness.
Tobermory Distillery
Tobermory Distillery is located on the picturesque harbour of Tobermory on the Isle of Mull, on the west coast of Scotland. Founded in 1798, it is one of the oldest distilleries in Scotland and has a rich history with periods of closure and re-opening.
A specific feature of Tobermory Distillery is the production of two different types of whisky: the non-peated Tobermory and the heavily peated Ledaig.
Tobermory whisky is known for its fruity and floral character with notes of citrus and honey, while Ledaig whisky is characterised by its robust, smoky flavour with hints of pepper, sea salt and leather. Maturation takes place in a combination mix of bourbon and sherry casks, creating a rich and complex flavour.
The combination of an idyllic location, a long and rich history, and a diverse range of whiskies makes Tobermory Distillery a respected and beloved name in the world of Scotch whisky.
