Bruichladdich 9 Years 2001 - 2011 #001 for Bresser & Timmer

The Bruichladdich 9 Years 2001 - 2011 #001 for Bresser & Timmer is a refined and lively whisky that beautifully expresses the character of Bruichladdich's untasted style. The combination of fresh fruit notes, subtle sweetness and a slight mineral influence make it a perfect choice for lovers of elegant and well-balanced single malts. This unique single cask expression offers a nice balance between youthful freshness and the complex nuances that have developed during the 9 years of maturation, and is a whisky that can be enjoyed both pure and with a drop of water.

Tasting note

Nose

The nose is fresh and inviting, with bright aromas of green apple, pear and a hint of lemon. These fruity notes are complemented by light, floral accents reminiscent of heather and blossom. There is a gentle sweetness of vanilla and honey, coming from the cask, which is nicely balanced with a light, mineralic hint typical of Bruichladdich's untasted style. There is a hint of maritime saltiness in the background, which adds a subtle Islay character.

Taste

At the first sip, the whisky reveals a lively, oily texture that spreads smoothly across the tongue. The fruity notes of apple and pear remain prominent, but are complemented by ripe peach and a hint of tropical fruits such as pineapple. The wood influence adds a pleasant vanilla sweetness and a light touch of caramel, without being overpowering. There are also subtle spicy touches of white pepper and a hint of cinnamon that add depth and complexity to the palate. The mineral undertones remain subtly present, giving the taste a fresh and lively impression.

Finish

The finish is medium-long, fresh and elegant. The fruity notes linger, along with a light, maritime saltiness characteristic of the distillery. A gentle sweetness of vanilla and honey remains in the background, while light spiciness provides a balanced and refined finish.

Bruichladdich Distillery

Bruichladdich Distillery is located on the west coast of the island of Islay, on the shores of Loch Indaal. Founded in 1881 by the Harvey brothers, the distillery has a rich history and is known for its innovative and experimental approach to whisky production.

A specific feature of Bruichladdich is the diversity in their whiskies. The distillery produces three types of single malt whisky: Bruichladdich, Port Charlotte and Octomore. Bruichladdich whiskies are unpeated and are known for their fruity and floral character with notes of citrus and sea salt. Port Charlotte is heavily peated, with a robust smokiness and rich flavours of earth and spices. Octomore, the world's most peated whisky, has intense smoke notes with complex layers of fruit and spice.

The distillery places a strong emphasis on terroir and transparency, using locally grown barley and the pure water of Islay. The whiskies are matured in a variety of cask types, such as ex-bourbon, wine and sherry casks, making for complex and diverse flavour profiles.

Bruichladdich is known for its commitment to sustainability and local community, and their whiskies are often described as lively, complex and distinct. The combination of tradition, innovation and a strong focus on local ingredients makes Bruichladdich a unique and respected name in the world of Scotch whisky.
