Caol Ila 18 years 2007 - 2025 #319464 Crafted in Cask
Berry Bros. & Rudd, the UK’s oldest independent bottler, created the Crafted in Cask series to showcase how unique cask finishes can elevate and enrich a whisky’s natural character. Each bottling balances authenticity with added depth and complexity.
This Caol Ila was distilled in 2007 and bottled in 2025 after 18 years of maturation, finished in Moscatel casks. The result is a powerful Islay single malt where smoky peat and maritime notes are beautifully intertwined with the sweet, fruity influence of Moscatel.
Tasting Notes
Nose
Smoky peat, seaweed and citrus layered with raisins and honeyed wine notes.
Palate
Rich and full-bodied with dark chocolate, dried apricots, smoke and spicy sweetness.
Finish
Long and warming, with lingering peat smoke, dried fruits and a refined wine sweetness.
A bold yet elegant Caol Ila that shows the true artistry of the Crafted in Cask series.
Berry Bros & Rudd
Berry Bros. & Rudd is one of the oldest and most respected independent bottlers in the world. The company was founded in 1698 and is headquartered in St James's Street, London. The family business originally began as a coffee merchant, but soon expanded into the wine and spirits trade. Today, Berry Bros. & Rudd is known for its high-quality whiskies, as well as a wide range of wines and other spirits.
History
Founded in 1698 by the widow Bourne, Berry Bros. & Rudd began as a shop selling coffee, tea and spices. Soon the shop became a meeting place for London's elite, and the company expanded into selling wine and spirits. Over the years, Berry Bros. & Rudd has built strong ties with the British royal family. The company is a court supplier and has received several royal warrants throughout its long history.
Caol Ila Distillery
Caol Ila Distillery is located on the picturesque east coast of the island of Islay, overlooking the Sound of Islay, a strait that separates Islay from Jura. Founded in 1846 by Hector Henderson, the distillery has a rich history and is the largest distillery on Islay.
A specific feature of Caol Ila is the production of both peated and unpeated single malts. The distillery is particularly famous for its heavily peated whiskies with elegant, maritime influences. The whiskies often have a distinctive flavour profile with notes of smoke, sea salt, citrus, and a subtle sweetness.
Caol Ila traditionally uses copper pot stills and water from nearby Loch nam Ban. The whiskies are mainly matured in ex-bourbon casks, which contributes to the smooth, balanced flavours.
With its unique combination of tradition, craftsmanship and distinctive flavour profile, Caol Ila remains a respected name in the world of Scotch single malt whisky.
