Tasting notes
Nose
Initial burst of fruits with red berrie, dried figs and ripe blackcurrants. Cerreal driven notes evolve, marrying with the sherry seasoning influence to add flavours of roasted coffee beans, toffee, and chocolate coated hazelnuts. The pot still spices still show vigour with notes of freshly peeled ginger, carefully layered over a rich oak influence of leather and woodland spices.
Taste
Rich introduction of oak tannins which quickly subside, revealing an array of mixed fruits ranging from ripe plums to delicate waves of citrus. The pot still spices of ginger and cinnamon complement the wonderful influence of the wine seasoning, while the oak continues to evolve adding structure throughout,
Finish
Reassuringly long, with the oak and dark fruits lingering for a time, before giving way to the original barley.
Midleton Distillery
Midleton Distillery is located in the town of Midleton, County Cork, in southern Ireland. Founded in 1825, the distillery has a rich history and is home to some of Ireland's most iconic whiskey brands, such as Jameson, Redbreast, and Green Spot. The current facility was opened in 1975 and is one of the largest and most modern distilleries in the world.
A unique feature of Midleton Distillery is the use of both traditional copper pot stills and advanced column stills, which allows them to produce a wide range of whiskeys. The distillery is known for its triple distillation process, which results in an exceptionally smooth and refined whiskey. In addition, Midleton uses a variety of casks for maturation, including ex-bourbon, sherry and wine casks, creating complex and rich flavour profiles.
Midleton whiskeys are known for their quality and craftsmanship, with flavours ranging from fruity and floral to rich and spicy. The combination of a long tradition, innovative techniques and a commitment to quality makes Midleton Distillery a pillar in the world of Irish whiskey.
