Nose

On the nose, the whisky opens with delicate aromas of honey, ripe fruit and a hint of vanilla, along with subtle floral notes.

Taste

On the palate, light, creamy flavours emerge, such as butterscotch, green apple and soft spices, with hints of caramel and citrus. The whisky has a silky smooth texture, making the drinking experience particularly enjoyable.

Finish

The finish is medium-long and refreshing, with a fine balance between sweetness and a slight spiciness.

Great Northern Distillery was founded by John Teeling in Dundalk, County Louth, in 2015. He selected the former Great Northern Brewery as its home, where Harp Lager and other beers had been produced for many years. This gave the industrial complex a new purpose and returned large-scale whiskey production to a town with a long history of distilling and brewing.

Great Northern is not a conventional consumer brand, but primarily a producer for other whiskey companies. The distillery supplies new make and mature whiskey for bulk sales, contract distilling, private labels and retailers’ own brands. With copper pot stills and continuous column stills, it can create a broad range of styles: double and triple-distilled malt whiskey, peated malt, single pot still and grain whiskey.

This versatility makes Great Northern an important part of the modern Irish whiskey revival. It enables young brands to release whiskey while their own spirit is still maturing and also produces to the requirements of established customers. There is therefore no single house style: from light and smooth to rich, spicy or smoky.

Berry Bros. & Rudd is one of Britain’s oldest and most distinguished wine and spirits merchants. Its history began in 1698, when the Widow Bourne opened a grocery shop on St James’s Street in London. During the nineteenth century, the company increasingly focused on wine and spirits, while the Berry name became permanently associated with the business. The Rudd family joined in the twentieth century.

Berry Bros. & Rudd also has an exceptionally long heritage in whisky. Its oldest known own-label cask bottling dates from 1853, making the company one of Britain’s oldest independent bottlers. In 1923, Francis Berry and Hugh Rudd also created Cutty Sark, a lighter blended Scotch that achieved considerable international success.

The Berry Bros. & Rudd Own Selection range includes carefully selected single cask whiskies, blended malts and house bottlings from Scotland and other whisky-producing countries. The emphasis is on provenance, cask character and drinkability.
