Akkeshi distillery
Located in Japan’s northern most island of Hokkaido and further east than any other distillery in the country, production at Akkeshi Distillery started in 2016.
The town of Akkeshi has a cool, moist climate with frequent rolling sea fog that blankets the town coming off the marshes of the Bekan-Beushi wetlands.
Fog and marshes like these are indispensable to the production of whisky with similar characteristics to Islay malts. Operating in this bountiful natural environment, Akkeshi Distillery will be a sustainable enterprise in harmony with nature.
The Akkeshi "Kanro" 2020 Edition
The first in a series of bottlings from Akkeshi that are dedicated to the 24 Solar Terms of Japan. Each release will explore the effects that the local climate, wildlife and farming have on the final product.
Kanro (cold drops of dew) has been distilled using peated barley and has been matured in a combination of ex-bourbon, wine, mizunara and sherry wood before being married.
Altho no age-statement is declared, we believe this to be a 3 year old whisky. One of 15,000 bottles.
