Yamazakura Asaka
Yamazakura Distillery
Yamazakura Distillery is located in the Koriyama region, in Japan's Fukushima Prefecture, an area surrounded by mountains and rivers that contribute to its natural beauty and purity. Founded by Sasanokawa Shuzo, a company that has been producing sake and shochu since 1765, Yamazakura began distilling whisky in the 1940s. So while the company was initially known for its traditional Japanese drinks, in recent decades it has also focused on producing high-quality whiskies.
A unique feature of Yamazakura is its limited and artisanal production, combining traditional methods with local knowledge of sake and shochu production. The whiskies are matured in a mix of casks, including ex-bourbon and sherry casks, creating a balanced and refined flavour profile with notes of vanilla, fruit, and a subtle spiciness.
Yamazakura whiskies are known for their soft, floral character and refined, yet complex flavour. Despite their limited production, Yamazakura has gained international recognition for their dedication to quality and craftsmanship. The distillery combines age-old traditions with a modern approach, resulting in unique and high-quality whiskies that reflect the rich history of Sasanokawa Shuzo.
