Miyagikyo Distillery

Miyagikyo Distillery is located in Japan's picturesque Miyagi Prefecture, among mountains and rivers, near the city of Sendai. Founded in 1969 by Masataka Taketsuru, founder of Nikka Whisky, this distillery was chosen for its ideal climate and natural environment, which contribute to the production of smooth and elegant whiskies.

A unique feature of Miyagikyo Distillery is the use of a combination of traditional pot stills and column stills, which enables the production of both single malt and grain whisky. The distillery uses pure spring water from the nearby mountains, which contributes to the purity and finesse of their whiskies. Maturation takes place in a variety of casks, including ex-bourbon, sherry and new oak casks, creating complex and layered flavour profiles.
