Description
Château de Montifaud XO is a particularly mature Petite Champagne Cognac, assembled from eaux-de-vie with an average age of approximately thirty years. The Cognac initially matures in seasoned Limousin oak casks before continuing its development in older wood, allowing the oak influence to remain refined and beautifully integrated. Bottled at 40%, this smooth and mature XO combines dried fruit, toasted nuts and spices with pronounced rancio.
Tasting note
Nose

Rich and fruity, with apricot jam, caramelised plums and ripe pear. Raisins, honey and nougat are complemented by toasted almonds, hazelnuts, nutmeg and a touch of saffron.

Palate

Rounded and silky, with apricot, plum tart and candied citrus. Honey and caramel provide generous sweetness, while grapefruit, orange peel and gentle spices keep everything fresh and vibrant. Refined rancio adds further depth.

Finish

Long, warming and lightly drying, with prunes, raisins and toasted nuts. Cardamom, citrus and elegant old oak linger pleasantly.

Château Montifaud

The history of Château Montifaud began in 1837, when Augustin Vallet planted the first vineyards in the Cognac region. Cognac has been produced at the family estate since 1866, and the sixth generation now safeguards the work of its predecessors. According to a distinctive family tradition, whenever a son joins the business, part of the cognac from that year is set aside. The old cellars therefore still contain rare eaux-de-vie distilled by earlier generations of the Vallet family.

Château Montifaud owns vineyards in Petite Champagne and Grande Champagne, two crus renowned for their chalk-rich soils and cognacs with excellent ageing potential. The family manages the entire production process, from growing the grapes and making the wine to distillation, maturation and bottling. The wine is distilled slowly with its fine lees, giving the eaux-de-vie additional roundness and aromatic depth. During maturation in French oak, the use of new wood is deliberately limited so that fruit and floral aromas are never overwhelmed by the cask. The result is an elegant, supple style of cognac with ripe fruit, flowers, delicate spice and a refined touch of oak.
