Carlos I Solera Gran Reserva
Carlos I Brandy, arguably the most famous premium brandy in the world. An Osborne icon praised mainly for its qualities, it is named after a Spanish king of the same name. Carlos I, made according to the solera system, is a reserva which means the brandy has undergone at least 1 year of barrel aging.
Osborne brandy making is a tradition passed down from generation to generation, it involves a combination of science, art and experience. These facets guarantee a brandy of consistent quality that has made fame far beyond the protected regional area of origin, D.O. Jerez. A brandy may carry the protected provenance designation D.O. Jerez the moment the "aging" of the spirit has taken place within the borders of Jerez de la Frontera, El Puerto de Santa Maria and Sanlucar de Barrameda.
The process starts with selecting the best native Spanish wine grapes. Distillation then takes place in copper stills according to the artisanal Arabic method Tomelloso. This "handcrafted" method is still only used by a handful of traditional Spanish brandy distilleries.
After the distillation process, the distillate rests for at least 1 year in American oak barrels that were previously used for barrel-aging premium Oloroso and Amontillado sherries.
Tasting note
A barrel-aged brandy with deep amber colours and a golden glow. Very intense, well balanced with aromas of vanilla, tobacco and nice subtle sugars.
