Carlos I is a classic Brandy de Jerez from the Spanish house of Osborne, with origins dating back to 1889. According to the story, a cellar master in Jerez discovered several old casks containing exceptionally mature brandy. Its quality was so impressive that the brandy was named after Emperor Charles V, known in Spain as Carlos I. The equestrian image associated with the brand refers to Titian's famous portrait following the Battle of Mühlberg.

Carlos I is made from carefully selected wines, including Spain's Airén grape. Following distillation, the brandies mature in American oak casks that previously held oloroso and amontillado sherry. Ageing takes place according to the traditional criaderas and solera system, in which younger and older brandies are gradually blended together.

Carlos I carries the Solera Gran Reserva classification and is one of the best known representatives of Brandy de Jerez. Alongside the classic Carlos I, the range includes older and specially matured expressions as well as variants highlighting the influence of particular sherry casks.
