Arran Port Cask Finish
Arran Port Cask Finish is a delicious single malt whisky that brings together the best of both worlds: the fresh, fruity style of the Isle of Arran and the rich, sweet depth of Portuguese port casks. After an initial maturation in traditional oak casks, this whisky gets its unique character from a finishing touch in carefully selected port casks. The result is a dram full of warmth, fruit and an elegant complexity reminiscent of sunny vineyards and balmy summer evenings.
Tasting note
Nose
The nose opens with a lush and inviting aroma of juicy red berries, ripe cherries and plums, combined with soft notes of honey, vanilla and a hint of orange peel. A subtle spiciness is also present, with hints of cinnamon and a hint of dark cocoa.
Taste
At the first sip, you taste the perfect balance between sweetness and liveliness. The palette is filled with flavours of dark fruits like raspberries, strawberries and blackberries, along with a sweet touch of toffee and milk chocolate. The wood influence adds a slight spiciness, such as cinnamon and nutmeg, while a briny touch from the Isle of Arran adds a pleasing complexity. The texture is creamy and soft.
Finish
The finish is long and warming, with lingering fruity notes and a hint of sultanas.
Arran Distillery
Arran Distillery is located in Lochranza, on the picturesque island of Arran on the west coast of Scotland. Founded in 1995 by Harold Currie, a former director of Chivas Brothers, the distillery was the first legal distillery on the island in over 150 years.
A specific feature of Arran Distillery is the purity of its whisky, thanks to the use of water from the nearby Loch na Davie, one of the purest water sources in Scotland. The distillery produces a wide range of single malt whiskies, known for their fruity and creamy character, with notes of apple, pear and vanilla.
Arran uses traditional production methods, including copper pot stills and a slow distillation process, which contributes to the quality and complexity of the whisky. In addition, the whiskies are matured in various cask types, such as bourbon, sherry and wine casks, creating rich and varied flavour profiles. The distillery has built a reputation for craftsmanship and innovation, and remains a favourite destination for whisky lovers worldwide.
