Caol Ila 15 years Flora & Fauna

This rare Caol Ila bottling is a must-have for every collector and investor. As part of the iconic Flora & Fauna series, this 15-year-old Islay single malt whisky is becoming increasingly scarce. Its combination of smoky complexity and subtle freshness makes it not only delicious, but also highly collectible. A beautiful expression of Caol Ila’s character, presented in a lesser-known, yet highly intriguing version.

Tasting Notes

Nose

Briny sea breeze, peat smoke, citrus oil, and a touch of iodine. In the background, green apple and a delicate herbal note.

Palate

Elegantly smoky with soft peat, lime, white pepper, and a hint of liquorice. Well-balanced between sweet, salty, and smoky notes.

Finish

Long and warming, with lingering smoke, mineral freshness, and a subtle touch of vanilla.

Flora & Fauna Series

In a world where big names often steal the spotlight, Diageo's Flora & Fauna series is a quiet hero. This particular series was launched in the 1990s to give a stage to lesser-known distilleries within the group's portfolio. Think of names like Auchroisk, Benrinnes, Dailuaine or Inchgower - distilleries that usually disappear in blends, but shine in this series as Single Malt.

What makes this series so charming is its combination of quality, character and simplicity. Each bottle carries a label with an elegant drawing of a flora or fauna scene (hence the name), symbolic of the nature surrounding the distillery in question. The whiskies themselves are often not too heavily filtered, bottled at 43% alcohol, and matured in classic casks such as ex-bourbon or sherry casks - without excessive frills, but with plenty of authenticity.

Flora & Fauna bottlings are loved by collectors and whisky enthusiasts who love discovering something unique, something "off the beaten path". It is like getting a peek behind the scenes of Scotland's whisky world - a world that is not just about marketing, but more importantly about craft and taste.

In short: the Flora & Fauna series is a loving tribute to the silent workhorses of the whisky world. Honest, pure and with its own voice - exactly as single malt is meant to be.

Caol Ila Distillery

Caol Ila Distillery is located on the picturesque east coast of the island of Islay, overlooking the Sound of Islay, a strait that separates Islay from Jura. Founded in 1846 by Hector Henderson, the distillery has a rich history and is the largest distillery on Islay.

A specific feature of Caol Ila is the production of both peated and unpeated single malts. The distillery is particularly famous for its heavily peated whiskies with elegant, maritime influences. The whiskies often have a distinctive flavour profile with notes of smoke, sea salt, citrus, and a subtle sweetness.

Caol Ila traditionally uses copper pot stills and water from nearby Loch nam Ban. The whiskies are mainly matured in ex-bourbon casks, which contributes to the smooth, balanced flavours.

With its unique combination of tradition, craftsmanship and distinctive flavour profile, Caol Ila remains a respected name in the world of Scotch single malt whisky.
